The stars were out—and shining bright—last night as the newest vessel in Princess Cruises’ fleet received a sparkly christening. Star Princess was officially welcomed into the Princess family at Port Everglades, where godparents Camila and Matthew McConaughey blessed the ship and broke a celebratory bottle of Pantalones Organic Tequila—the brand they co-founded—to wish the ship, guests and crew good fortune on the seas.
The celebration continued well into the evening with a Sheryl Crow concert that had everyone on the Lido Pool Deck belting out her biggest hits, a mind-blowing drone show paying homage to Princess’ Alaska sailings—where Star Princess will head after her maiden Caribbean season—and food stations from the ship’s various eateries, including The Butcher’s Block, where Italian butcher Dario Cecchini was carving meats for the party attendees.
“It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of past godparents and welcome Star Princess into the Princess fleet,” said Camila and Matthew McConaughey. “We are excited to share this moment with the guests who step aboard—coming together with family and friends, making new memories, and sharing a Pantalones cocktail, or two.”
The McConaughey’s organic tequila brand, Pantalones, incidentally, is featured across the fleet, including in the popular 24K Gold Margarita and the Love Line Premium Liquors Collection.
“Today’s naming ceremony is a milestone filled with pride and joy for everyone at Princess Cruises,” said Gus Antorcha, Princess Cruises’ President. “Star Princess is a stunning reflection of our legacy and our future—bringing together incredible design, exceptional experiences, and the spirit of discovery our guests love. We’re grateful to Matthew and Camila McConaughey for joining the Princess family and know their warmth and infectious spirit will always be felt throughout Star Princess.”
Camila and Matthew McConaughey join an illustrious group of Princess Cruises godparents including Princess Diana; Catherine, Princess of Wales; Audrey Hepburn; and Sophia Loren.
The ship will carry 4,300 guests to the Caribbean during the winter months, followed by a sailing through the Panama Canal to Seattle for a debut season of 7-day Alaska Inside Passage cruises in the summer of 2026.
New things for your clients to look for while sailing on board the new ship include a new theme at Spellbound by Magic Castle; new, original theatrical shows; a more spacious O’Malley’s Irish Pub and a new Candlelight Concert series in the glass-enclosed Dome.
