JetBlue will discontinue its year-round service between New York JFK and Flamingo Airport, Bonaire (BON), effective Jan. 3. The airline has completely withdrawn from the Caribbean island in the Leeward Antilles after operating the route for just 14 months.

The New York-based carrier currently operates the route once weekly on Saturdays using an Airbus A320 aircraft configured with 162 passenger seats. Outbound flights depart JFK at 8:05 a.m., arriving in Bonaire at 12:54 p.m., with return flights departing at 1:59 p.m. and landing in New York at 6:43 p.m.

Bonaire Remains Connected

Following this exit, American Airlines (Miami), Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) and United Airlines (Houston and Newark) will remain the only U.S. carriers serving Bonaire. This reduction in air service could potentially impact access for clients seeking this destination.

The route cancellation comes despite strong regional tourism performance across the Caribbean. According to the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), the region welcomed 34.2 million international tourists in 2024, representing a 6.1 percent increase over 2023 and 6.9 percent above pre-pandemic levels.

U.S. visitors continue to dominate as the region’s largest market segment with 16.8 million arrivals in 2024, a 3.5 percent increase from 2023 and 7.9 percent above pre-pandemic figures.

The CTO reports cruise tourism has also experienced substantial growth, with 32.5 million cruise passenger visits in 2023 and continued strength through 2024. Europe has shown the strongest growth among source markets in 2024, with 5.7 million visitors representing a 10 percent increase over 2023.

Despite challenges including climate impacts, Caribbean tourism appears set for continued growth with strong forward bookings reported throughout the region for winter 2024/25.
