Set on 40,000 acres of woodland in the Shawangunk Mountains, with over 85 miles of trails, Mohonk Mountain House is a National Historic Landmark located in New York’s Hudson Valley, 90 miles north of New York City. Owned and operated by the Smiley Family since its founding in 1869, the resort offers recreation and renewal of body, mind and spirit in a beautiful natural setting. The inclusive-pricing structure has dining, entertainment and most activities all included in the overnight rate.

A Spa Treatment with a Stunning View
Earlier this year, Mohonk Mountain House opened the Lakeview Summerhouse, the resort’s first outdoor spa treatment room, located on the cliffs overlooking Lake Mohonk. Beyond the new open-air Summerhouse (open Memorial Day Weekend until Sept. 30, weather permitting), the award-winning, newly refreshed spa (open year-round) offers 16 treatment rooms, relaxation verandahs, a solarium, indoor and outdoor heated pools, steam room, sauna, a comprehensive fitness center, as well as space for meditation, yoga and fitness classes.

“Our spa has always been an exceptional space to nurture guests, and I’m delighted to build on that experience through this refresh and the introduction of new spa therapies and mindfulness offerings,” says Barbara Stirewalt, v.p. and GM of Mohonk Mountain House.

Nina Smiley, Ph.D. and director of mindfulness, says, “With the addition of the Lakeview Summerhouse and the new treatments and programs, guests are given fresh opportunities to celebrate our natural environment and create mindful moments on property.” For instance, the seasonal Lakeside Immersion includes a dip in Lake Mohonk followed by guided yoga stretches and warm ginger inhalation therapy to offer, points out Smiley, “the benefits of releasing endorphins, blood flow stimulation, joint and muscle pain relief, and an immediate energy boost.”

Fishing, Rock Climbing or Ice Skating—Your Clients Can Take Their Pick
Mohonk Mountain House’s recreational activities include guided hikes, mountain biking, boating, swimming, fishing, archery, lawn games, campfires, tennis, golf, horseback riding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, rock climbing and more. The grounds feature over 85 miles of hiking trails and carriage roads, a Victorian garden, a historic Barn Museum and horse stables, and over 120 handcrafted summerhouses. Mohonk’s Seasonal Wellbeing Collection (individual spa treatments tailored for each season) focuses on a holistic approach to staying healthy throughout the year. According to spa director Margaret Lora, the collection of spa, fitness and wellness integration was created with the intention of helping guests to become more attuned to natural rhythms and cycles of nature, bringing awareness to the body’s changing needs throughout the seasons. The Collection includes Seasonal Wellness Treatments such as hydrating herbal wraps and wellness massages designed to support balance and sense of wellbeing. Cost is $240 for 60 minutes. “We’ve created experiences that are deeply connected to Mohonk’s natural surroundings. During the warmer months, guests can explore over 85 miles of trails, swim in the lake, play golf and tennis, go cycling and so much more. During the colder months guests can still enjoy nature at its best with the changing of the seasons, snowshoeing, winter hiking using MICROspikes, ice-skating in our open-air pavilion, outdoor firepits, guided daily nature hikes and evening entertainment.” — Barbara Stirewalt, Vice President and GM, Mohonk Mountain House

Guests can also customize their individual experience with guided tours, nature walks, spa classes, mindfulness sessions and other activities. Group experiences can also be customized with such activities as teambuilding, mindfulness session and other programs to accommodate the group’s specific interests and requests.

And note, too, that Mohonk offer specials throughout the year that typically require a 2-night-minimum stay.
