Windstar Cruises’ expanded Star Breeze has left for its first sea trial. Star Breeze is the first of its three yachts to revamp as part of the company’s $250 Million Star Plus Initiative.

This Star Plus Initiative will create new public areas including two new dining venues, a new spa, infinity pool, and fitness area on each ship. The renovated ships also have new bathrooms in every suite and a new category of Star suites, featuring a new layout. With ocean-views and over 277 square feet of comfort, Star Breeze allows guests to watch glaciers and fjords drift by from the serenity of their suites.

Carrying only 312 guests, Star Breeze still tucks into small ports like Le Lavandou and Wrangell or narrow waterways like the Corinth and Keil Canal.

Windstar is transforming its three all-suite Star Plus Class ships that also include Star Legend and Star Pride.

Windstar’s $250 million project will result in four engines per ship, 50 new suites per ship, two new dining experiences, a $267,000 investment per berth, 84 new feet in length per ship, a new Grand Owner’s Ship that adjoins with another suite for a three-bedroom, 3.5 bathroom suite, all new bathrooms, and two new tenders.

In other news, with health and safety concerns in mind, Windstar has a Beyond Ordinary Care program in place that includes its fleet of six yachts equipped with hospital-grade HEPA filters, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation and a safe sanitization formula used in health care settings. A new partnership with the epidemiology department at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Center provides ongoing guidance.

“We are taking extensive measures and making multi-million dollar investments to operate our yachts more safely in this new environment,” said Windstar Cruises CEO Andrew Todd, in a statement. “Building upon Windstar’s 180 degrees from ordinary service, the Beyond Ordinary Care program implements a layered system of science-led best practices aimed at keeping everyone aboard healthy.”
