Riviera River Cruises is offering a new journey on the Saone and Rhone rivers in France in 2023. The new itinerary, Lyon, Provençal Rhône & the Camargue River Cruise, is an 11-day round trip journey from Lyon that winds through some of southern France’s most beautiful regions.

The journey begins in Lyon, where the Rhone and Saone rivers meet. The ship will travel north up the Saone to Macon, where passengers can visit the former Benedictine monastery at Cluny, and then on to Chalone and Beaune to sample some of the finest Burgundian wines. Then it is back to Lyon where the ship will dock so passengers can explore all the historic city has to offer. After an overnight’s stay, sail on the Rhone to the Ardèche Gorges and then on to Avignon, the first-century AD Pont du Gard aqueduct and the city of Uzes. The next stop is Provence for a chance to explore Arles and Les Baux-de-Provence, before heading on to Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône and the wetlands of Camargue with its colony of pink flamingos. Next up is the Rhone Valley, where travelers can explore Orange and the town of Chateauneuf-du-Pape before heading back to Lyon the following day.

The 140-passenger MS Lord Byron will sail the Lyon, Provençal Rhône & the Camargue River Cruise from April to October, with prices starting at $3,729 per person based on double occupancy. The package includes 10 nights onboard the MS Lord Byron, all onboard meals, eight guided city tours, visits to the Camargue wetlands, the Pont du Gard and the Ardèche Gorges, plus two wine tastings and one olive oil tasting. Onboard WIFI and all port charges and taxes are also included in the package. Travelers can opt to extend their stay in Lyon for three nights for prices starting at $535 per person.

“The round-trip from Lyon offers convenience and at 11 days there’s plenty of time to explore the region, from the heart of Burgundy to the shore of the Mediterranean Sea,” said Marilyn Conroy, Riviera River Cruises’ e.v.p. of  sales and marketing for North America. “As always, Riviera is the only European river cruise line that doesn’t accept bookings directly from consumers, instead working exclusively with travel advisors and their clients – when a consumer comes to us, we refer their business back to you.”
