Australian airline carrier, Qantas, has announced a significant update to its distribution model, designed to meet the evolving needs of travel advisors and their customers.
The new model, launching on July 1, 2025, reflects a global shift toward New Distribution Capability (NDC) technology, offering travel advisors improved access to fares and personalized options for travelers.
Key Features of the New Model
Agents will be able to access Qantas content through several channels, including:
- Traditional indirect booking systems (EDIFACT)
- Standard NDC
- Premium NDC
The model includes surcharge-free options and varying ticket surcharges, allowing advisors to choose the best tools to meet their needs. Qantas has collaborated closely with global distribution systems (GDS) and Certified Technology Partners to ensure the new framework equips agents with tools for success. NDC technology unlocks a range of advantages, such as:
- Better pricing and fare options
- Tailored travel experiences
- Dynamic commission opportunities
Oronzo Miccoli, Qantas Senior Vice President of the Americas, highlighted the benefits of the shift: “Here in the U.S., NDC brings significant advantages for agents and their customers. The platform provides access to more competitive pricing and customizable itineraries that traditional booking systems can’t match. For agents, it opens new revenue streams through dynamic commissions and personalized trip-building tools.”
This update will replace the current Qantas Channel agreements with agency partners, streamlining access to content and enhancing booking capabilities. With these updates, Qantas aims to continue driving success and value for its agency partners while meeting modern travelers’ expectations.
