GOL Linhas Aereas has announced plans to launch its first long-haul international route between RIOgaleao – Tom Jobim International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Beginning July 8, 2026, the new route establishes a direct connection between two key tourism and business hubs in the Americas. The route will operate three times weekly and was developed in partnership with the Rio de Janeiro City Hall as part of broader efforts to expand international air connectivity for the Brazilian city.
Expansion Into Long-Haul Flying
The new service represents a milestone for the airline, which has traditionally focused on domestic and regional operations across South America. The move follows the company’s decision to add wide-body aircraft to its fleet, allowing it to operate longer intercontinental routes while offering enhanced passenger comfort.
According to GOL CEO Celso Ferrer, the new route reflects the airline’s evolving international strategy. “With the introduction of widebody operations, we are taking another step forward in our evolution—expanding our horizons and creating new products and services for our customers,” Ferrer said during the announcement.
Strengthening Rio de Janeiro’s Air Connectivity
GOL currently operates more than 30 domestic and international routes from Rio de Janeiro. The new long-haul service is expected to further strengthen Rio’s position as a gateway for international tourism and business travel, while providing new travel options for passengers connecting throughout the airline’s network.
The planned schedule for the route includes overnight flights in both directions:
- Rio de Janeiro (GIG) – New York (JFK): Depart 9:55 p.m., arrive 6:55 a.m. the following day
- New York (JFK) – Rio de Janeiro (GIG): Depart 11:00 p.m., arrive 9:55 a.m. the following day
Flights from New York are scheduled for Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with return flights from Rio operating on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
