Luxury travelers everywhere know Belmond delivers when it comes to the finer things in life, but they’re definitely not ones to rest on their laurels. For the past couple of years, the brand has been executing a 10-year, long-range strategy of renovation and rejuvenation that extends across its ample portfolio, meaning your clients will have even more top-notch experiences to look forward to this year and beyond.

“Travel is back, but we all must travel better. As a proud custodian of timeless heritage, our asset rejuvenation strategy has been sensitively planned to ensure that our precious properties will continue to hold their iconic status for generations to come,” said Roeland Vos, president & CEO of Belmond, in a press statement. “At the same time, we believe travel has the power to transform both our guests and the communities in which we operate. Our goal is to curate guest experiences that will enrich the connections between our guests and the destinations.

“We will continue perpetuating the legendary art of travel—leading the industry by setting new standards of luxury—standards that are defined by one-of-a-kind authentic experiences and genuine connections,” Vos added in the statement.

The Belmond Plan Includes Everything from Hotels to Experiences

The first property to fall under this new strategy was the Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino, which reopened in Spring 2021. This year, Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya in Mexico, will reopen in May after a thorough renovation that includes the launch of the first Guerlain Spa in Latin America with treatments that include Mayan wellness rituals. A third hotel, the Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino, is also undergoing a transformation from top to bottom that is scheduled for completion in 2026. Note: the renovations are being done during the seasonal closures, so this year your clients can already enjoy a reimagined poolside restaurant, swimming pool and terraces, and a new signature suite.

Other recent projects include the redesign of the Cygnus carriage aboard the British Pullman, A Belmond Train, England and the restoration of Copacabana Palace Theatre (that had been closed for 30 years) adjacent to the Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel, Rio de Janeiro. The Coquelicot, A Belmond Boat, Champagne, was recently redone and offers a unique slow voyage through the Champagne region that is sure to delight the gourmands on your client list. 2023 is also the year for the debut of the new suite category in the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, A Belmond Train, Europe, which includes eight new accommodations.

In the experience arena, Belmond has announced everything from a new Paris to French Alps route aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, to the creation in Mexico of a Melipona bee sanctuary with Guerlain at Maroma for guests to visit, to visits in Peru by guests of the Palacio Nazarenas and Monasterio in Cusco to a sustainable farm to connect with local residents. This is in addition to the cultural experiences the brand is curating, with art installations and partnerships around the globe, plus culinary experiences helmed by young rising stars and Michelin-starred chefs.
