American Airlines has begun rolling out free, high-speed in-flight WiFi for AAdvantage members. Starting this month, AAdvantage members can access free, satellite-based WiFi on more than 2 million American Airlines flights annually. The service, sponsored by AT&T, will be introduced in phases, with the airline targeting near-fleetwide availability by early spring.
According to the carrier, free WiFi will initially launch across 100 percent of American’s aircraft and dual-class regional jets this month. By early spring, the airline expects the service to be available on nearly all American-operated flights.
Simple Access for AAdvantage Members
Customers can connect through American’s upgraded aainflight.com portal by logging in with their AAdvantage number and password and selecting the “Free WiFi” option. Non-members can enroll in the AAdvantage loyalty program at no cost, either before departure or onboard via the in-flight portal.
In addition to complimentary WiFi, AAdvantage membership provides access to mileage earning, elite status qualification, priority boarding benefits and award redemptions.
Expanding Inflight Connectivity
The airline reports that more than 900 mainline aircraft are currently equipped with high-speed satellite WiFi provided by Viasat or Intelsat.
According to American Airlines:
