AmaWaterways has added a second luxury vessel to its Colombia portfolio with the launch of AmaMelodia on Oct. 26 in Calabasas, CA. The introduction follows the earlier debut of AmaMagdalena and signals the river cruise line’s continued investment in sustainable tourism and cultural connection along the Magdalena River. The company’s decision to expand with a second ship reflects confidence in the growing demand for river cruising within Colombia.

“After seeing the incredible response to AmaMagdalena earlier this year, we are thrilled to welcome AmaMelodia to the AmaWaterways fleet,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways, in a press statement. “Launching these two ships has been an extraordinary collaboration with our Colombian partners. Together, we are not only creating unforgettable travel experiences for our guests but also helping to build a sustainable foundation for tourism that benefits local communities along the river.”

Amawaterway’s Newest Build

Built to accommodate 64 guests, AmaMelodia offers staterooms ranging from 237 to 318 sq. ft., each with twin balconies for open-air viewing. The design emphasizes comfort and regional character, including locally sourced materials and handcrafted accents created by Colombian artisans. Guests can expect dishes that blend Latin American flavors with international favorites in the Main Restaurant and onboard entertainment rooted in the country’s musical traditions. The Sun Deck whirlpool provides a relaxing vantage point for viewing landscapes and town life along this historically significant river.

AmaMelodia’s programming continues AmaWaterways’ strategy of developing immersive cultural encounters that benefit local communities. Your clients can attend a private presentation on the Barranquilla Carnival, a jazz concert in Mompox and visit Palenque, recognized as the first free town in the Americas. Each experience is designed to provide authentic access to Colombian culture while creating direct economic opportunities for guides, performers and artisans.

“Seeing AmaMelodia set sail is very meaningful to me,” said Kristin Karst, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Ambassador of AmaWaterways, in a press statement. “Over the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with our Colombian partners and witnessing the incredible pride and passion that define this country. From its talented artisans to the warm communities along the riverbanks, Colombia’s spirit is woven into every detail of this ship. AmaMelodia is a celebration of that culture and a beautiful example of what can be achieved through true collaboration and respect for local heritage.”

The ship sails on two 7-night itineraries—Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia—each designed to highlight the biodiversity, music, cuisine and heritage that define the Magdalena River Valley. Both routes deepen engagement with riverside communities and natural reserves across the region.

AmaWaterways’ collaboration with ProColombia, the nation’s tourism promotion agency, continues to advance the cruise line’s goal of responsible development along the river corridor. AmaWaterways is the only major river cruise company currently operating in this region.
