Puerto Rico is planning to reopen for inbound travel on July 15. However, a new executive order was just announced for the island detailing new protocols for travelers.
First on the list of protocols is arrival to the island. Once travelers arrive, they’ll meet the Puerto Rico National Guard who will be assisting with enhanced health screenings of all arriving passengers at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, where all flights are currently being diverted to. Face masks are mandatory and thermographic cameras will continue operating to monitor temperatures of travelers.
As of July 15, arriving passengers must complete a travel declaration form from the Puerto Rico Health Department, as well as show a negative molecular COVID-19 test from the 72 hours prior. (Testing sites on the mainland U.S. can be found here.) If travelers arrive on the Island without the requested documentation, they will be offered a rapid COVID-19 test at the airport. Even if the test result is negative, it will be mandatory for the traveler to quarantine and cover their own medical expenses/possible extended stay. The quarantine is mandated until the traveler provides proof of a negative molecular test result on the island; a list of testing sites in Puerto Rico will be available on site and online. If a negative molecular test is not provided, the traveler will be required to quarantine for 14 days, or the length of their stay.
While on the Island
As guests experience the island, they’ll have to keep in mind that there is a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., which has been extended to be in effect through July 22. Masks are also mandatory when in public, or individuals will face a fine. Restaurants, spas, museums, and theaters are open, however operating at a 75 percent capacity. In addition, casinos opened today (July 1) and will also be operating at 75 percent capacity, with wellness checkpoints at points of entry, which will consist of temperature checks and hand sanitation.
