Petra Roach, director of the U.S. Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) beamed as she announced the launch of JetBlue’s new service from Barbados to Fort Lauderdale, beginning April 28, during the Barbados JetBlue Fort Lauderdale Launch event on Tuesday evening at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six. The new roundtrip service will be offered daily aboard JetBlue’s A320 aircraft, featuring complimentary inflight entertainment, complimentary movies, spacious leather seats and unlimited snacks and drinks. Flights depart Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) at 8 a.m. and arrive at Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) in Barbados at 11:49 a.m. The return service departs BGI at 12:45 p.m. and arrives at FLL at 4:50 p.m.

“One of the most amazing things about coming to Barbados [in addition to] the warmth and friendliness of the Barbadian people… [are] the wonderful things that you can do on the island, whether it’s golfing, whether it’s sailing, or whether it’s going to Crop Over,” said Roach.

JetBlue’s Barbados to Fort Lauderdale service marks the airline’s third gateway to this eastern Caribbean island in the Lesser Antilles. Existing direct services are offered from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS), which began last fall.

“We don’t have a tagline, frankly speaking, I don’t think we could come up with one,” said The Honorable Richard Llewellyn Sealy, M.P., minister of tourism and international transport. “It’s just Barbados. Come and experience a slice of it and you’ll understand.” For more information, go to visitbarbados.org.
