We headed to the Cancun Travel Mart where Carlos Gosselin, president of the Cancun and Puerto Morelos Hotels Association, said that this 30th reunion of the tourism industry of Quintana Roo is very important as more than 30,000 business meetings took place last year. Benito Juarez, mayor of Cancun said, “Tourism is the only industry we have today, one we have seen grow exponentially in recent years.” And Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, governor of the state of Quintana Roo, also touted the influence of the tourism industry when he said, “Tourism has become one of the most important sectors for Mexico’s economy making 8.7 percent of the GDP.”
