In Search of History with Context Travel
Context Travel’s 1916, The Easter Rising and the Making of Ireland walking tour of Dublin explores the history behind the 1916 Easter Rising revolt that led to the formation of the Irish Free State (the modern-day Republic of Ireland). The 3-hour seminar, led by an Irish historian, begins at the former Houses of Parliament, then moves on to Dublin Castle, Gratton Bridge and Millennium Bridge, ending at the General Post Office. Along the way, guests are given insight into how the modern Republic of Ireland was formed and the elements of its past—the empire, colonialism, monarchies, and rebellions—that are still evident today. Guests and their guide will also discuss the city’s conflicting social and cultural forces at the time, key figures during the uprising, and the daily life of Dubliners during that period. Tours are available Monday through Saturday for groups of up to six people. Group tours cost $92 pp. Private tours cost $326 pp. For more information, call (800) 691-6036 or visit contexttravel.com.
