Mercat Tours takes fans of the popular “Outlander” TV series back in time to 18th century Scotland as they visit the filming locations of the historical drama. The show, based off the “Outlander” book series, comes to life through the 2-hour agent-commissionable Edinburgh Outlander Experience tour of Old Town, Edinburgh—a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Guides act as storytellers on the tours, as they weave in passages from the books and stories of witchcraft, curses, the Jacobites, and the Royal Stuarts, as well as share true depictions of what life was like at the time and how the fictional series mirrors Scotland’s history. Highlights of the tour include a trip to Canongate Kirk, where in the series Colum Mackenzie met the show’s protagonists Claire and Jamie for the last time; Tolbooth Jail, where the Fraser men of Lallybroch were imprisoned for desertion; and the World’s End tavern. The Edinburgh Outlander Experience begins at 11 a.m. every Saturday from April to October. Adult tickets cost $16; concession tickets are $14. For more information, visit mercattours.com.
