BellaVista Tours has added to its product line of flexible escorted tours throughout Sicily with more than 15 new dates through 2016. The 8-day Sicily Escapade tour begins in the capital city of Palermo with visits to the shrine of Santa Rosalia, the Palace of the Normans, the Theatro Massimo, and the Quattro Canti. Guests will then depart for the town of Marsala, known for its sweet wines, where they will participate in an olive oil tasting session and enjoy the local Marsala wine with lunch.
The tour also includes a guided walking exploration of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, one of the main archaeological treasures of the Mediterranean set in a rural landscape of olive and almond trees. Stops along the Via Sacra (holy pathway) take in the Temple of Herakles, the Temple of Zeus and other ancient sites. Next on the itinerary is a visit to the town of Modica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is known for its distinctive chocolate. Guests will meet a local chocolatier, learn about the traditional method of production, and participate in a chocolate-tasting session. The tour concludes at Taormina, the picturesque seaside village set below the slopes of Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. A walking tour of Taormina will visit the Greek/Roman amphitheater, and on the final day the unique Godfather tour will take guests to some of the locations around Taormina where “The Godfather” trilogy was filmed.
