As countries around the world begin to open their borders up to international travelers, Sandals Grande Antigua Resort has opened its doors and began welcoming guests back.

“We have been highly anticipating this moment and have spent this time strengthening every element of our health and safety protocols with our guests in mind. We are pleased to report that The Ministries of Health and Tourism have certified that we have successfully completed the stringent registration and inspection protocols with flying colors. We are eager to provide that much-needed escape for travelers who have been cooped up and are now seeking a place to relax that gives them the privacy, reassurance and the space they’re looking for,” said Gordon “Butch” Stewart, founder and chairman of Sandals Resorts, in a press release statement.

The hotel has implemented the Sandals Platinum Protocols of Cleanliness. As part of this, Sandals has completed a holistic assessment of all points of guest contact to identify 18 key touch points—starting from the moment guests arrive at airport lounges through the entirety of the resort experience—and further enhance its Triple-Check system for diligent and continuous cleaning and sanitation accordingly.

  • Prior to arrival, guests will have the option of At Home to In-Room check-in, allowing them to check in on-line, skip the front desk and go to their guest room. A refreshing welcome cocktail, a personal anti-bacterial hand towel and individual in-room hand sanitizer will await arriving guests regardless of their check-in preference.
  • On resort, guests will find hand sanitizing stations throughout public spaces, at all dining locations and within each individual guestroom. Any items that guests will come in contact with will be sanitized prior to distribution.
  • All team members have undergone specialized training on precautionary measures geared toward preventative protocols and added sanitation practices.
  • New Certified Sandals Sanitized Guest Rooms will reflect even more robust housekeeping measures—from the introduction of additional hospital-grade disinfectants and electrical aerosol sprayers for advanced cleaning, to the use of UV-LED lighting equipment to inspect cleanliness and air duct sanitization for each arrival and upon each departure.

All Sandals and Beaches Resorts are designed to never feel full and span large parcels of lands with expansive beaches and open-air environments. This provides a strong foundation for Sandals to layer on additional protocols that ensure guests are able to maintain a safe distance from one another. The company will also add more airport transfers with fewer guests per vehicle, extend check-in times between visitors and ensure a safe social distance across restaurants, bars and beaches.

All team members across all resort locations will be required to know where the nearest hand sanitizer stations are located at all times, wear protective face gear and gloves at all times when on resort, and ensure uniforms are not worn during travel to and from work. They will also undergo required temperature checks before the start of each shift in addition to stringent medical clearance.

A dedicated Quality Inspection Team, alongside Environmental Health and Safety Managers at each resort, will ensure strict adherence to Sandals Platinum Protocols of Cleanliness. All resorts are equipped with medical stations staffed daily with a registered nurse and 24/7 on-call medical personnel.

Additional reopening dates will be announced over the next few weeks, as more countries in which Sandals Resorts operates open their borders to international travelers.
