Travelers living in Michigan and searching for a winter getaway now have a chance to escape to the sunny Bahamas. Starting Dec. 21, 2024, Delta Air Lines will offer weekly nonstop flights from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) through April 12, 2025.

This seasonal route, relaunched after a four-year pandemic pause, is the only direct service connecting Detroit to Nassau, making it a convenient option for travelers seeking sun and sea.

Visitor Numbers Rising

The timing couldn’t be better. The Bahamas is experiencing historic visitor growth, with 8.38 million arrivals recorded from January to September 2024, a 16.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Nassau and Paradise Island alone welcomed over 2.7 million visitors in the first half of 2024, solidifying their reputation as premier destinations.

Latia Duncombe, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, highlights the richness of the Bahamian experience in this press statement: “From culinary delights across our 16 islands and year-round festivals to sustainable tourism initiatives that uplift our communities, we welcome visitors to immerse themselves in all The Bahamas has to offer.”

New developments and expanded airlift are driving the island’s growth. American Airlines has added new flights to Freeport and Nassau, while major hubs like New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta now offer enhanced service to The Bahamas.

Additionally, luxury developments are in full swing, including Baha Mar’s forthcoming fourth resort, set to open in 2029. For sports enthusiasts, the new John McEnroe Tennis Center at Baha Mar, opening this month, offers world-class facilities with tennis and pickleball courts, training clinics and lessons for all skill levels.
