In an effort to provide a more immersive experience, Belmond is connecting guests with local experts and industry leaders to create one-of-a-kind authentic escapes around the globe. For example, this fall, Alexander McCall Smith, author of the popular The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency book series, is returning to Botswana to host his second-annual Belmond safari. The 6-night itinerary takes place Sept. 20-26 with accommodations split evenly between Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge and Belmond Eagle Island Lodge, where McCall Smith penned several of his early novels. In between two daily game viewings, Alexander will share stories about his personal connections to Botswana—the setting for the series’ 17 books—and give guests an inside look to his upcoming books. All-inclusive rates start at 9,325 pp dbl.

Additional Expert Experiences are available June 26-30, 2017 in Scotland, where guests can hit the links with Ryder Cup champion Sam Torrance during a 4-night journey that includes the chance to play at three of Scotland’s top courses; and Oct. 7 or Oct. 11 in Myanmar, where guests can go on a 3- or 7-night mindfulness river cruise along the Ayeyarwady River, which includes the opportunity to participate in Tibetan yoga and meditation sessions as well as one-on-one coaching and on-land wellness excursions.
