Yucatan’s tourism reactivation plan is set to receive a boost with the opening of the new Wayam Mundo Imperial hotel and the reactivation of low-cost air carrier Volaris serving four destinations in the region.
The Wayam Mundo Imperial hotel, located in Yucatan’s capital city of Merida, opened its doors on July 23. The boutique hotel boasts 52 suites, a swimming lane and a rooftop bar. In order to ensure guest safety, the hotel has implemented the Imperial Clean program, which demonstrates the highest standards of cleaning and disinfection. The hotel is also in the initial phase of obtaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, an international standard of recognition for building sustainability.
The hotel is offering a 50 percent discount promotion on reservations made before Aug. 31 to celebrate its recent opening. The promotion will be valid until January 2021. Click here for more information.
In August, air carrier Volaris will increase its operations by 109 percent, connecting Yucatan with four domestic hubs in Mexico, including Mexico City. Volaris is the airline with the largest number of routes and seat numbers to Yucatan and it will offer 10,000 seats with fares starting at $42.

Yucatan’s three-phase Tourism Recovery Plan encompasses health care, preservation of tourist offers – with more than $1.3 million in loans granted to sector workers—and market reactivation.
The region has received recognition in the tourism industry for its good sanitary practices, including Certification of Good Sanitary Practices, approved in a joint venture with the state of Quintana Roo; Safe Travels stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and, recently, the Punto Limpio designation announced by the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico.
