Mondrian Park Avenue has reopened its doors with a new culinary pop-up and enhanced health and cleanliness protocols.

As New York City continues its phased reopening, the 189-room hotel located on Park Avenue South is welcoming guests back to its hub for art and culture.

Also reopening is Mondrian Terrace, the hotel’s rooftop lounge and bar. The lounge overlooks Park Avenue South, and offers an indoor-outdoor sky lobby setting. The venue will accommodate only outdoor use initially, with indoor seating to return soon.

James Beard award-winning Chef Rocco DiSpirito will create a temporary pop-up at Cleo, the hotel’s culinary concept that offers a modern twist on the ingredients and cultures of the Mediterranean region. A selection of Chef Rocco’s dishes will also be served at Mondrian Terrace. Mondrian Park Avenue will donate a portion of profits to City Harvest in support of its causes.

“We are delighted that Rocco DiSpirito will host a pop-up at Mondrian Park Avenue, bringing his culinary magic to both Cleo and Mondrian Terrace for a limited period,” said Stephen Brandman, co-owner and CEO of Journal Hotels, in a press release statement. “His signature cuisine style and creativity pairs perfectly with our culinary concepts and we are excited for guests to discover what he will bring to the dining experience.”

New cleanliness protocols are in place at the hotel, which have been developed in line with the latest city and state guidelines. Among the new measures being undertaken across the property are the use of UV lights to sanitize luggage and rooms, and providing proper PPE equipment, including masks, to guests and staff. The hotel’s public spaces have also been reorganized to follow social distancing rules.

“As our beloved city reemerges, we are thrilled to once again welcome residents and guests through our doors,” said Charlie Katz, general manager of Mondrian Park Avenue, in a press release statement. “We encourage guests to rediscover the lifestyle experience within, in a safe and comfortable environment for all.”
