Delta Air Lines says it will block middle seats through at least Jan. 6, 2021. During an earnings call, Delta CEO Ed Bastian said “consumer sentiment and confidence in air travel” will determine when it discontinues the policy and that is will probably be in the first half of 2021.
United Airlines and American Airlines removed capacity restrictions in the summer and Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines are blocking seats only until November 30. JetBlue Airways will keep middle seats blocked until October 15 and then limit passenger loads at 70% through December 1.
In addition, Delta says electrostatic spraying high-touch services using high-grade disinfectant will continue on every flight, every day. And the air onboard is refreshed every three to six minutes with fresh outside air through an industrial-grade HEPA filter.
It has also rolled out a robust employee COVID-19 testing program for gate agents, baggage handlers, flight crews and more.
Delta will operate more than 3,800 peak-day flights per day this Thanksgiving season, increasing frequencies from its U.S. hub airports to popular leisure destinations like Florida, Mexico and Hawaii to provide more choice and industry-leading connectivity.
In addition, Delta has waived change fees for all travel on all tickets purchased from March 2020 through the end of the year, and permanently eliminated change fees for U.S. domestic travel (excluding Basic Economy fares).
