In celebration of World Space Week, Carnival Cruise Line has announced that it is partnering with Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex to launch a children’s space program with activities inspired by NASA science, which will debut on Carnival Celebration this November.
Carnival Calling All Space Cruisers This Fall
The Space Cruisers curriculum, part of Carnival’s Camp Ocean science and discovery programming, is supported by NASA and designed as a fun and educational way of exploring the universe and our home planet for children of all ages, featuring an array of hands-on and one-of-a-kind learning experiences.
“Space Cruisers will truly take our offerings to the next level with the perfect balance of fun and education to give both our younger guests and their families something to be excited about,” said Melissa Mahaffey, director of youth experience, Carnival Cruise Line, in a press statement. “Kids are always looking to explore new things, and this program gives them the chance to discover many of the awesome aspects of space through fun activities while taking away unique learnings.”
Children will be able to complete “missions” (activities) to earn a themed mission patch representative of the program. Activities include Optimal Orbit, for ages 2-8, where children will learn about the pull of gravity and how planets, satellites and other objects move through space in a hands-on experience featuring a giant trampoline. Space Cruisers Rocket Workshop, for ages 6-11, lets children follow in the footsteps of NASA’s talented engineers to build their own paper rocket and make it fly. Mars Base Connect is a family-friendly activity that explores the steps it takes to build a Mars base and then come together with family members to create one. While ASTRO! is a space-themed Bingo game where constellations are called out as they’re displayed on a unique star projector.
“Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is where the epic story of the U.S. space program is brought to life through fun and inspirational activities, exhibits and educational activities,” said Therrin Protze, chief operating officer, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, in a press statement. “We’re excited to bring a piece of that experience aboard Carnival Celebration for the Space Cruisers program.”
The program will debut on Carnival Celebration when it sets sail on its inaugural voyage from Miami in November 2022, and will then be rolled out to the Space Coast with Mardi Gras in Port Canaveral in time for the holiday season. Various activities from the program will later go fleetwide in time for spring break.
