Marriott International announced a strategic partnership with Mullen Real Estate Capital to bring a JW Marriott-branded, all-inclusive resort to Costa Elena, an exclusive resort-residential enclave in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
The luxury property is set to become one of the first JW Marriott all-inclusive resorts, underscoring Marriott’s commitment to redefining high-end hospitality with a focus on mindfulness, exceptional service and elegant design.
All-Inclusive in Costa Rica
Scheduled to open in the coming years, the resort will be located approximately 49 miles from Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport. The JW Marriott Costa Elena will feature 415 guestrooms, 11 dining venues and an expansive 44,000 square feet of water amenities, including 17 swimming pools. Guests can also enjoy a state-of-the-art fitness center and a 16,000-square-foot spa.
Uriel Burak, Vice President of Development for Marriott International in the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA), emphasized the significance of the project, stating in a recent media release: “We are thrilled to expand our presence in Costa Rica with the introduction of one of the first JW Marriott All-Inclusive Resorts. This marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration with Mullen Real Estate Capital, a pioneer in the all-inclusive sector within the CALA region.”
Situated along 885 feet of beachfront property, future development plans may also include JW Marriott-branded residences on an adjacent site.
Earlier this year, the company celebrated the opening of its 50th luxury hotel in the region, Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Costa Rica. With 10 new deals signed in 2024 alone, representing 1,086 rooms, Marriott’s development pipeline in Costa Rica now includes 15 properties and 1,776 rooms. The company currently operates 22 hotels across 15 brands in the country, with further openings expected in 2025.
